Best Fans In Georgia: Bulldogs or Yellow Jackets

It is a rivalry that goes back decades, the Georgia Tech versus Georgia game. Both sides have their fans that take this to the extreme and to be honest, when they make the schedule out every year, it is not coincidence that Georgia versus Georgia Tech is the last game to be played. Regardless of who wins the game, the visiting teams grounds crew is going to have a lot of work to get the field back to some since of normal. Yes, this is a game that can take a family and tear it apart like no other rivalry. So the age old question is exactly who has the best fans? The case can be made for both sides, let’s look at the fan base and determine whose fans reign supreme.

Georgia Bulldogs
If you are a fan of Georgia football, then you know that on game day when the Dawgs are at home, the true fans show their dedication. One look around Sanford Stadium, and you realize quickly you are in Bulldog country. From the sight of fans who have taken their bald head and painted the Bulldog logo on it to fans dressed in ways that would make a biker gang scared even. Yes home games during the fall in Athens can be an experience. When the Bulldogs get to play host to the Yellow Jackets of Georgia Tech and win, well that makes the environment that much intense and wild. There is no doubt that Bulldog loyalists are some of the most passionate fans in Georgia, but there is the other side of that coin when talking about Georgia Tech.

Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets
If you have been to a game at Bobby Dodd Stadium, then you know that Yellow Jacket fans are not to be taken lightly. Let’s face it even the fight song and cheers are designed in a way to belittle the University of Georgia. If that does not scream rivalry, then nothing else does. One reason that the game between these two is so important is the fact that the winner takes the Georgia State Governors Trophy. Over the last 100 plus meetings, Georgia leads the series 64-41-5. that being said when Georgia Tech won last year at Georgia, players and fans alike went a little nuts and destroyed the hedges at the stadium. The big shot to the heart of Georgia was watching the Tech flag be planted securely in the middle of their G.

Without a doubt, there is as much of a rivalry as to has the best fans as there is the actual football games. Both sides of fans try to one up the other in the way that they show school pride and there have been instances where fights have broken out between these two sides. If you think that this is a rivalry that is taken lightly, then you are mistaken and will quickly learn that there is nothing that these fans won’t do to show their devotion to their team.

Overall, the Georgia Bulldog fans are just a little more passionate than those of the Yellow Jackets and yet this will be a rivalry that has no end point in the near future. This will go on as long as there is breath in the lungs of either school. The one thing that both schools can agree on is that they both have fans who have a deep passion for their schools and are not afraid to show that passion. If you happen to be in Georgia on game day, be aware that it is not a good idea to take sides unless you are in friendly territory.

Outlook For Georgia Bulldog Football In 2017

Last season was a hard one for the Georgia Bulldogs that being said, things are looking up for the Dawgs and their faithful fans. It would be a long stretch for Georgia to see a National Title shot, but there were those that said the Cubs winning the World Series was a long shot. That being said, there is reason to believe that they may actually crack the top ten in rankings this season. There are a lot of returning players from last years squad and those that left are being replaced with a stronger and more capable recruiting class. Let’s take a look at a few of these players that promise to make an impact in 2017.

Mercole Hardman
This is a man that I fully expect to see in the punt return position more than in the past. There is one simple reason why I see him in this position and that is he can run and make plays happen that others could only dream about. There is no doubt that at least once this year, you will see him receive a punt and a few seconds later you will hear the announcer scream touchdown. This is a scene I see happening a lot in the upcoming season. The only concern might be the knee that has given him some slight trouble in the past, that being taken out of the equation, I see this being his year.

The punter position will need some help this year as there is chaos in this area. Marshall Long is recovering from a major knee injury and Brice Ramsey is not exactly the man for the job. All of this means that the kicker position will fall on the shoulders of Cameron Nizialek, who happened to announce almost as if it was timed he was transferring to Georgia this year. This is going to be a welcomed sign as this position needs to be filled and there needs to be a strong kicker that can get the ball down the field.

Nick Chubb and Sony Michel
With these two players returning this season, there is a lot of reason why fans of the Bulldogs should celebrate. These two put together make for a dynamic duo that will be hard to beat by any team that Georgia faces this season. This will be one of the reasons why the Bulldogs will be in the top ten rankings this season and should easily take the SEC East title.

The Bulldogs will have one of the top defensive teams this season and it will be a tough feat for the opposition to score any real points on the Bulldogs. That being said, there is little doubt that the defense will not be one of the top ranked teams in the nation in 2017. Trenton Thompson will be the one that will lead the defense this season and look for him to make some big plays. There are a lot of people myself included that think this will be a man that will be putting the Quarterback on the ground a lot this season.

Overall, this is shaping up to be a great season for those die hard Georgia fans. Things have not went exceptionally well in the past few seasons, but this will be the year that things begin to turn around. It will not lead to a National Title, but in a couple of years, this will be the team to talk about. Besides does anyone really know what exactly a Crimson Tide is and how it has to do with an elephant?
